6-Day Retreat-Style Teacher Training Module.
This module can be done on its own or as part of our 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training.
‘An Act of Giving’ – Teaching Skills & Asana
The first morning asana class will be a led, modified Ashtanga Primary Series class. Monica gives detailed alignment cues guided by a desire to teach students how to work from the inside out. With an enhancement of free breath, bandha activation and spinal lengthening, students learn to deepen their practice and mental focus.
The Mysore-style self-practice classes are an opportunity for students to apply these principles and for Monica and her assistant(s) to guide, educate and assist students further.
As this module includes sequencing classes on other asana styles, including pre/post natal and restorative yoga, we will be practically applying these throughout the retreat.
Sanskrit is the sacred, ancient language of Yoga. The yogis say that knowledge is encrypted in sound. Correct pronunciation will automatically lead to yogic knowledge because Sanskrit is encrypted yogic knowledge. Using the rules of Sanskrit grammar you will learn the correct pronunciation giving you a tool to connect to this 10,000 year old living tradition as we learn a selection of Vedic hymns, Peace prayers, Tantric dharanas and Japa mantras.
Effective Teaching & Presenting Skills
Explore the role and qualities of the teacher, intra-class dynamics, how to communicate clearly, effectively and compassionately. Learn how to give sophisticated verbal instructions combined with the essential principles of communication to help your students reach their desired goals. Learn to safely and effectively structure, conduct and deliver asana classes to all levels of students.
Sequencing Asana Classes*
The importance of a well-sequenced class and the influence that it has on students and how they will feel during and after class is key. Sequencing is more than just putting some poses together that we think are cool, creative, and fun. Sequencing is an art which enhances the flow of Prana, linking each posture with the breath to encourage a seamless flow.
Pre- & Post Natal Yoga*
During the time of pregnancy a woman’s body goes through a number of physical and emotional changes. Each trimester brings with it changes in the body. Many women experience discomfort, lower back pain, restlessness, lack of sleep, and loss of self-confidence. Having the tools to execute a well-rounded prenatal yoga sequence can hugely support a women during each stage of her pregnancy. Carmela will present four different sequencing formats to support a pregnant women’s body during each stage, including post pregnancy.
With the prevalence of trauma and generalised anxiety in our culture it is important for every teacher to understand what trauma is, how it can affect us and how to create a safe, compassionate, nurturing environment that accommodates the most sensitive student.
Our fast paced lives mean we need to be able to regulate our nervous system between its extremes of high alert and low energy. Understanding the poly-vagal theory can give us tools to down-regulate when we are stressed or over-whelmed and to restore when we are exhausted or unwell. We will also apply this theory and learn supportive postures where we can physically, mentally & emotionally unwind and rejuvenate.

Thank you for being a role model for what a great teacher could be and for all the love and care for us students.
Monica held us all with loving kindness, honesty, inner strength, humour and grace. An amazing week…thank you for allowing each and every one of us to experience ourselves just as we are ❤️🙏❤️ Sarah, UK
For so many years her books with Gregor Maehle have been my most consistent teacher – with me from London, to India, from Central America to Berlin. When in need of guidance I turned to those books for practicing and teaching. And now, after 2.5 years of waiting for Australia to let them fly again, I finally got to learn from her in person. It was worth the wait. Such a complete embodiment of a genuine teacher. Knowledge, wisdom, kindness, patience and love. So much love. I’m so inspired and cannot wait to meet her again! And until then I’ll be reflecting on her insights and hearing her beautiful voice chanting the Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra. Thank you Monica for giving us all so much ♥️
We are all in love with you, dearest Monica ❤️. The energy of joy, lightness, sharing you invited us into, always stays within us all. So looking forward to the next adventure together

Monica is a life-long yogi. She has over 40 years experience of yoga study and practice!
Thank you so much Monica for your impassioned and joyful teachings. I so thoroughly enjoyed your yoga, your teachings, your chanting, your guided meditations. The whole course was very inspiring. When I was teaching this morning I was dipping into my new tool box and body of knowledge and applying it to my class. It was all very well received and a few light bulbs went on for all of us. It was great to apply and practice on the students.
