Course Overview

This class is class for those who have learnt the fundamentals of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system (ujjayi pranayama, bandhas and Drishti) and have an adequate level of fitness to complete a 2/3 of the Primary series. Omits the complex postures that require advanced flexibility.

Variations are given for some postures that otherwise require a good degree of flexibility (UHP, 1/2 lotus, etc) 

Suitable for those wishing to prepare for Mysore-style classes.

Monica Gauci

Monica began her practice of yoga in 1978. She practiced Hatha Yoga and then Iyengar Yoga for 13 years until she discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in 1993. After multiple journeys to Mysuru, India in 1996 she was authorised to teach Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga by K. Pattabhi Jois.

In 2008 she graduated with 1st class honours as a Doctor of Chiropractic and received numerous awards for Academic Excellence.

Monica continues her studies in anatomy and. She is a registered Yoga Therapist with the Australian Association of Yoga Therapists and is registered at the highest level with both Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia. Monica has published Ashtanga Yoga Beginners Course Manual for Teachers and is a contributing author to Ashtanga Yoga, Practice and Philosophy and Ashtanga Yoga, The Intermediate Series in the areas of asana, anatomy, injury prevention and therapy.

Amina Mokrane

Amina’s journey as an Aṣṭāṅga Vinyāsa Yoga practitioner is a testament to her unwavering dedication. For 15 years she has maintained a daily practice, which now includes the first, second, and third series of this method. Her teaching journey began in 2018, following her first teacher training at Yoga Ashtanga Marseille Aix. She further honed her skills in 2019 with a 200-hour Immersion in Bali, Indonesia, under the guidance of  Gregor Maehle and Monica Gauci. In 2020, she deepened her teaching skills and knowledge with their Level 2 training in Byron Bay, Australia. Monica and Gregor have since invited her to assist them in four teacher training modules, a testament to her dedication and expertise.

Amina has also studied with Petri Raisanen from 2011 to 2024 and David Garrigues from 2020 to 2022. She has also assisted Petri Raisanen during workshops. Amina has taught at Yoga Ashtanga Marseille Aix and My Yoga Shala, both in Marseille, France.

Amina’s passion is to pass on and spread the knowledge and understanding that she has received. She offers teaching in line with the tradition of Aṣṭāṅga Vinyāsa Yoga, a practice she deeply respects and is committed to preserving, while also catering to the individual needs of each person, physically and psychologically.
