We are excited to announce our new European Teacher Training, of which this current module is part of. This training consists of four individual week-long modules with each providing 50 hours of tuition, of which 40 hours are delivered in person and 10 hours online.
You can participate in each module without completing the whole training. Students who wish to gain deeper knowledge about a particular subject rather than wanting to teach are welcome.
Pranayama, Yoga Sutra & Asana with Gregor, will take place on the 22nd – 28th May 2022 at Santa Marina Holiday Village, Sozopol, Bulgaria. Sozopol is an ancient seaside town at the Black Sea. While it was settled already in the Bronze Age, it’s fortifications date back to the 7th century BC. You can get there by flying to Burgas (daily flights from all European capitals) and then take the 30 minute bus ride to Sozopol. Santa Marina Resort has its own bus service which costs around Euro30 (you will need to inform Santa Marina of your flight details).
Travel update February 2022: In the wake of the pandemic flight capacity to Burgas is only slowly rebuilding. You may either wait until more flights become available in March/ April or book a flight to Sofia. We will organize a bus from Sofia straight to Santa Marina. The ride will take around 4 hours and cost around EUR20.
Please note, this event was previously scheduled to take place at Salento, Italy. Due to COVID we had to reschedule and because of unavailability of time slots we had to swap venues (The Meditation module with Gregor, previously scheduled in Bulgaria, will now instead take place in September 2022 at Salento, Italy. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused).
Pranayama

Additionally, you will learn how to liberate the breathing pattern, the use of breath waves, breath ratios, digital counting, contraindications and the therapeutic effects of all pranayama techniques.
Yoga Sutra, and Sanskrit chanting
“The Yoga Sutra entered my life 39 years ago and since then it’s been a constant companion. It took me a long time to completely understand it but once this had happened it ended all confusion I had about yoga. Understanding the Sutra gave me complete confidence in how to apply my practices diligently and that I would succeed in due time. The Sutra changed yoga for me from a faith and hope-based system to a science with predictable and repeatable outcomes. It is exactly this confidence and certainty that I would like to pass on to my students. The workshop will be interactive, with ample time for participants to ask questions.”
The Yoga Sutra is the operating manual of yoga. It is only when we understand the why’s and how’s of yoga that we will practice with confidence and beyond doubt. In this class we will chant selected stanzas in Sanskrit and a detailed commentary based on Gregor’s four decades of practice and study will be given. The commentary will retain the depth of the ancient treatises but will be fun, relatable and applicable to modern urban life.
Asana classes will be taught in the Led and Mysore-style format.
Each full day will comprise of 6 hours, 40 minutes of tuition. Vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets are included in the price. Transport is not included. There are various accommodation options. To download a prospectus and application form please click here.

You can find upcoming dates by clicking here.
After this the cycle will start again with either the Anatomy or Pranayama module, which will probably take place in August/September 2023. We endeavour to deliver two European modules per year. For more information on module delivery and booking please click here.
Future modules may or may not take place at this same venue. Each module can only be booked on its own (i.e. you cannot book the whole training in advance) and we cannot guarantee the price of future modules due to seasonally fluctuating accommodation and currency prices. We will do our best, however, to achieve comparable pricing.
Gregor is the author of ‘Pranayama, The Breath of Yoga’.
“Once again, Gregor Maehle has provided an invaluable resource for yoga students. I’ve read a dozen books on pranayama and taken workshops, all to little benefit in my practice. With this book, the lights came on. As in his previous publications, Mr. Maehle combines his astonishing knowledge of yoga scripture with the most straightforward, most insightful, most eye-opening descriptions and explanations ranging from physiology and bio-mechanics to psychology and spirituality. As I reread this book and ponder it, I am continually astonished by the depth of insight it provides. I have come to believe that this will be the single most important book on yoga in the past century. This is a life-changing contribution, for which I am profoundly grateful. ” Paul M. Gahlinger, MD, PhD, MPH
