Course Overview

In this theoretical lesson we study the energetics and application of chanting; the phonetics of Sanskrit; how to use a mala; the significance of 108 repetitions; the meaning of the sacred syllable OM; Śakti bija mantras and how to choose an Iṣṭa Devatā. The lesson closes with a japa on Oṁ and an illustrious recital on its meaning.

Yoga looks at the power of sound as part of a sacred approach to the whole of life and consciousness. Each mantra has its signature energy that brings about a specific effect upon the mind and can be understood according to its sound, meaning and application. The vibration of the sounds link our individual intelligence with the greater intelligence that is infinite and eternal.
